  1. People on site are tweeting that the number of injured is much lower. (5-6)

  2. Marge

50-60 injured. No fatalties @ AP.

What a horrible, awful hiking year. Three other hikers dead, miserable cold weather, norovirus, now this…
    I’m not superstitious, but 13!
Don’t trust the initial AP reports, they’re not dependable.

    • I know, right? 13 has had it rough!

    • What’s the story on 3 other hikers dead? I didn’t hear about it.

      • A 71-year-old Australian died last week. I’m assuming they’re including the guy who died of hypothermia in the Smokies in January or February. And I’m not sure who the third one was, but that’s an excellent question. Sad events. 😦

      • Wow. Stay safe…and young…and warm…and away from old people driving cars in the mountains. Prayers to the people hurt. Keep up the good fight!

      • Right!? But hopefully bad things come in threes, and we’re done now! Historically cold weather, norovirus, car accident. Done!

      • You betcha! 🙂

  4. I was hiking in Shenandoah yesterday. Was stunned to learn this when I returned to civilization.
